I. Picturized Safety Guide for Riggers


1. To be Ensured the entire work crew is Wearing of Suitable Personal Protective Equipment's.


2.  Check the Slings and Chains. Ensure that the rigging angle is Correct.


3. Make Sure the load is properly secured and inform to the Crane Operator, Weight of the load.


4. Make Sure the Lifting gears such as hooks, slings and shackles are well maintained and in good working condition.


5. Make Sure the load is stable, balanced properly and secured before any lifting operation.


6. Make sure all loose materials are placed in a proper receptacle or container or tied to prevent that materials may falling during the lifting operation. 


7. Immediately report to the Lifting Supervisor, if any defective or faulty lifting gears are identified.


8. Place adequate paddings on the sharp edges of the load to prevent the sling from damage.




9. Check the correct use of Choker hitches with D-shackles. Ensure the D-shackle is Positioned correctly. 


10. Ensure the correct center balance of the D-shackles, insert sufficient washers to centralize the position of the D-shackle and load. Make sure the D-shackle is not pulled down from the hook.


11. Check the correct hook-up methods before start the lifting operation. Make sure the safety latch and other lifting gears are in good condition.


12. Secured the lifting hooks are facing out and don't secure the hooks facing in side. Don't wrap a rope around the hook.


13. For long loads, use two legged sling with double wrap choker hitches. 


14. Do not tie the sling from one eye blot to another, due to force, it may tilt one side.

15. Make Sure that unused extra slings are hooked up properly.



16. If the eye is bend, the load not hook up correctly.

17. When Using four legged sling, make use of links to join the crane hook to the sling eyes.


18. Use the original screw pin of the D-shackles, don't use blot or rod as a screw pin, it will bend. 


19. Use Tagline (Guide Rope) with sufficient length and diameter, so that the guide rope can be easily gripped and the load stabilized. 


20. Use correct method of unloading, Do not pull out the sling from underneath the load because it will damage the sling. Put the load down on the supports and then pull out the sling.


21. Make sure the hook and D-shackles are in good working condition.




22. Check wire ropes for any defects and make sure they are in good working condition. 



II. Picturized Additional Safety Guideline for Riggers and Signalman.  

1. Before giving the signal to lift, the Signalman to be checked with the rigger that the load is ready for lift.


2. Give the correct hand signals clearly to the Crane Operator to lift the load.


3. Communication between the lifting supervisor, Crane operator, Rigger and Signalman must be maintained correctly at all times of lifting operation.

SOP – Safe Operating Procedure for Controlled Blasting


      (All accidents are preventable)

Precautions to be followed by employees and workers during blasting work

Before start the job, conducted the safety tool box talk meeting and get blasting permit.

Prior permission must be obtained from the District collector or District Magistrate.

Before start the job, ensure all workmen should wear all Personal Protective Equipment’s i.e Safety Helmet, Reflection Jacket, Safety Shoe, Ear Muff,  Hand Gloves and Goggles.

Check the explosives license and allow only the explosive license holder to check the connection of explosives and detonate explosives.

Before light-up for blasting, barriers should be placed around the work area.

Smoking and alcohol consumption must be avoided completely. Flammable materials should not be allowed inside.

No person entering the blast area should be allowed to carry items such as phones, pagers, appliances, cigarettes etc.

Vehicles should be used only after inspection of Plant & Machinery Officer and Safety Officer.

The depth of the two holes should not be more than the depth of the empty place of the side.

During drilling wooden / MS plate dummy to be used to all drilled holes for avoid misfire and unwanted soil refilling. Gelatin cartridge to be filled in to the hole, after completion of drilling work only.

Only the same type of explosives should be used. (Gelatin sticks, electric detonators).

During work, Gelatin cartridge filling and explosion to be ensured all extra explosive materials are kept in safe place or explosive Vehicle.

Do not allow explosive work during thunder and lightning.

Always test four or five EDs (Electric Detonators) with a series connection test device and select the correct ED to explode. As per the site condition, explosive license holder and site engineer will decide to how many holes will be exploded.

After attaching the electric detonators to the gelatin sticks, cover with soft sand.

After cover with soft stand, then cover with 150mm rubber mat and keep required number of sand bags on rubber mat.

After checking all the connections, the public should be made aware through the loudspeaker before exploding. Flagmen to be placed on all passage to observe public people and give all clear for explode. Red flag and whistle to be provided to flagmen.

After fixing all types of connections should be detonated at a distance of 70m-100m from the blast site. During explode all site workmen stayed in safe place and blaster also do blasting activity under the safe shelter.

Follow below instructions after finish the firing;

1. Only the person holding the explosives license should be allowed to inspect the explosive site.

2. If found any miss fire, cover all the way with barrier boards.

3. Misfire gelatin cartridge to be removed by using of Compressor Air Blower.

4. If not able remove by Air Blower, Soak in soap solution for three days and remove unexploded ordnance. Hard Barricading  to be done around the misfire location.

Wash your hands thoroughly after blasting work and before eating.

Upon completion of the blasting work, the blasting work permit should be returned to the concerned officer and give all clear siren.
